Carla J. Ritchie

Carla is the third generation to live in her family camp at Baker Cove, Rockwood Maine. Her grandfather and father built the camp in 1968, and Carla has been coming to Moosehead Lake since she was a young child. Her grandfather was an avid fisherman and her father a life-long dedication to snowmobiling. Carla grew up exploring the woods with her Dad, either on snowmobile or bushwacking in the off season – always trying to find a way to get there from here! What Carla learned from her father all those years was the importance of access to land and the importance of relationships between landowners and those who enjoy recreation.

Back in the 60s, the majority of land surrounding Moosehead Lake was owned by paper companies and the public generally had access to their lands. Over the years, the land has been broken into many parcels and sold several times. The stability of land ownership in the region is a thing of the past.

Carla also learned the importance of giving back to one’s community. Carla currently serves on the Baxter State Park Advisory Committee, where she served as Chair for three years, and is a member of the Board of Directors for the Friends of Baxter State Park. Carla is now taking all that she has learned in resource protection and recreational management and applying it to the newly developed Moosehead Regional Land Trust as founding member and President of the Board of Directors.

Carla grew up in Winterport, Maine and is a graduate of the University of Maine and she received her MBA from Husson University. Carla is a certified project manager and works as a part-time contractor for L.L.Bean. In her spare time Carla enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling, hiking, walking, swimming, camping, downhill and cross country skiing, snowshoeing, kayaking—basically being active outside with family and friends!
